Discovering Potential

Since I had been a kid I had the adults around me telling me that I had not been living up to my potential. It was wasted or I was just unable to see it myself. But in truth I didn’t realize I had potential. I was told that all the negative things that had happened to me as a child was my fault. I was “cursed” and there was nothing I could do about it. But it’s very easy to do something about it. Potential is nothing more than what you feel you are capable of.

After that feeling you simply put it into practice. For example, say you wanted to open your own business, but you’ve always viewed people who own businesses as “put together.” So you just work a job until you are fully prepared to dive into the world of entrepreneurship. There’s nothing wrong with this especially if you are learning helpful things. But the moment I started to understand MY potential was when I worked 3 jobs back to back, and none of the owners knew what they were doing. Extra work was put on the employees, including me. But the business was still failing. My moment was “if they can own a business I definitely can.”

That was all it took. Almost like “unlocking level 1” of introspection. But to go from realizing you have potential to realizing your potential takes a bit of work. After reaching “level 1” it’s more fun than difficult. (That’s how I view it) Because you get to fully divulge into whatever you have an interest in. All of the knowledge of the world is online. Use that to your advantage. Even if you can’t practice what you like, yet. You can try to understand it fully and figure out if it’s something you would like to pursue.

Repeat that last step until you feel like you have enough confidence to take on bigger and more daunting tasks. And then. Do it!

We are all capable of great things, don’t let the idea that you have limits stop you. They are subjective and only defined by us.
